One way to describe this GIF is as a form of digital drag. It was made with an iPhone app that allows users to apply makeup to photos on their device. I initially made this video because I found myself fascinated with the shortcomings of the live makeup feature and how it might mimic the way we fail gender, or rather how gender fails us.
