These images were taken in an abandoned swimming pool complex on the island of Lampedusa in May 2015. These clothes were items discarded by migrants that used the pool as shelter after fleeing the official UN camp on the island. I felt that by photographing each item in a forensic way it would serve as a representation of the danger that migrants face coming to Europe from North Africa. In addition I feel that these items of clothing still have a life in them and a familiarity that emphasises that we should all benefit from the concept of free movement of people.
